about

track I wrote in July of 2020 about getting older and not being able to control peoples perceptions of you. I have changed in innumerable ways since then yet this little pop song I wrote still resonates with me. My dad reminded me recently of it, as he has consistently over the last couple of years, and I asked my friend Peter if he would record it with only a couple days until I hit 23.
Here's what we made working from the original demo and old backing vocals, but featuring his productions skills and a new take done this week. It's like a little duet with myself.

lyrics

What are the things they’ll say about me
when I turn twenty three I'll know a little better

I consider the words in my head
Then I read the crowd and choose what’s said
It’s all in motion, I drank my last potion in bed

Heard the news about the venue signs
Those kids hurt each other on their own time
I cried the first time but I won’t cry today

I won’t stand my ground I’ll just pass it by
I’m not bothered by the people who feel anger inside
Loose as a paper bag
Slip through the underside

I still don’t understand What it takes
to be alive

I’m not sorry for the antidote I’m sorry for the whole ordeal
I’m on credit and I’m not in the position to steal

What are the things they’ll say about me
when I turn twenty three and know a little better

I consider my words in my head
Then I read the crowd
And choose what’s said
It’s all in motion
Drank my last potion
In bed

Heard the news about the venue signs
Those kids hurt each other on their own time
I cried the first time but I won’t cry today

I won’t stand my ground I’ll just pass it by
I’m not bothered by the people who feel anger inside
Loose as a paper bag
Slip through the underside

I still don’t understand What it takes
to be alive

I’m not sorry for the antidote I’m sorry for the whole ordeal
I’m on credit and I’m not in the position to steal

What are the things they’ll say about me
when I turn twenty three and know a little better
